SafeStart UK develops educational packs for schools in the UK called the SafeStart Children’s Safety CD-ROM, this is a fun and interactive collection of animated games designed to captivate children’s attention and covers major topics of safety including: road safety, fire safety and internet safety.

A lot of research goes into each new release of this product to ensure that the methods used in teaching the children who use it are as effective as possible, and that the product is up-to-date with the threats currently faced by children in the UK.

Because of the major audience that this website attracts, it was essential that it was not only very child-friendly, but that it also captivated that same dynamic and interactive sense of fun that the CD itself does.

Aside from the bold colours, the website is a relatively straightforward blend of XHTML and CSS, using the sliding doors technique to reduce the number of individual images required for the curved corners across the site (this was built before CSS3 or JQuery curvy corners) and also includes an online demo version of one of the CD’s games in flash. Most suitably, this is their internet safety game.
